How to measure

WAIST INSIDE LEG
  1. Waist: measure round his middle, where his school trousers sit, over a thin top.
  2. Inside leg: measure a pair of trousers that fit well, from the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
  3. Send us both numbers on WhatsApp if you would like us to check.

Our shops

Questions
parents ask.

Does my child's school want grey or black trousers?

Most schools ask for plain grey or black school trousers. Check your school's uniform list, or find your school on our site and we will show you exactly what it needs.

What is the difference between slim, regular and plus size?

It is all about the cut. Regular fit has a straight leg, slim fit is narrower through the leg, and plus size is wider at the waist and shorter in the leg for that waist size. Buy to his waist and inside leg rather than his age.

Pull up or zip and button, which is better?

Pull up trousers have a full elastic waist and no fastenings, so younger children can change quickly and on their own. Older boys usually prefer a zip, a button and an adjustable waist.

He is tall and slim. What should I buy?

Look at our long leg trousers first. If he needs a narrower fit as well, a slim fit with an adjustable waist will take in the waist without losing the length.

What if they do not fit?

Returns are easy and all done online in 3 steps. You can also try trousers on in our West Norwood or East Ham shop.

Do you sell pull on school shorts?

Yes. Our easy-on elastic pull up shorts are with the pull up trousers on this page, and every style of school shorts is on our school trouser shorts page.

Are your school trousers cotton?

None of our school trousers are 100% cotton. They are made from hard-wearing fabrics designed for the school day and regular washing.

Choosing school trousers

Grey or black,
and the right fit.

Most schools ask for plain grey or black school trousers. The colour is set by the school, so the real choice is the fit, and that comes down to his waist, his leg length and how he likes to get dressed.

Start with the colour

Check the uniform list. Grey and black are the most common, and many styles also come in navy or charcoal.

Then the waist

Pull up for no fastenings, adjustable for a growing waist, plus size if the waist is the problem.

Then the leg

Slim or regular for the shape of the leg, long leg if he is tall for his age.

Grey school trousers and black school trousers

Every trouser on this page comes in grey, black or both, and many come in navy and charcoal too. If the uniform list says grey, choose the mid grey rather than charcoal unless the school says otherwise.

Pull on, elasticated waist trousers for younger children

For infants and juniors we recommend pull up school trousers, also called pull on trousers. The fully elasticated waist has no zip or button, so children can change for PE and use the toilet on their own. They come as single pairs and in packs of 2, and there are pull on shorts for the summer term too.

When the waist and the leg do not match

If the trousers that fit his waist are far too long, he needs a plus size school trouser, also called sturdy fit. It is cut wider at the waist and shorter in the leg, so you do not have to size up and turn the hems.

Longer length trousers for tall boys

If he is tall and slim, normal trousers fit the waist but stop above his shoes. Our long leg school trousers add length without adding width, in long and extra long.

Shop slim fit, regular fit or school trouser shorts, or find your school to see its full uniform. Free UK delivery on orders over £75.
